My 2017 novel, Second Born, followed Jesus and his siblings as they grew up in a wealthy family and grew into their separate dynamic roles in the Christian story. In the book, James was the first-born son studying for the priesthood at the temple, while Jesus was the second son who followed a different path. As expected, a number of critics attacked me for suggesting that Mary was not a virgin and for making the point that Jesus was a man who became the Anointed, rather than the Anointed who became a man.
